The Volkswagen I.D Crozz II extends the company’s I.D. family. While primarily a range of concept cars, most will see the road — the I.D. Buzz, a modern take on the iconic VW Bus, will be built in 2022. Ahead of it comes the Crozz II — it is an all-wheel drive, zero-emission crossover.
Volkwagen says it will have an electric driving range of up to 500 kilometres. That, given the current state of the electric world, is a large number. It also ushers in the target of one million VW electric vehicles by 2025.
The Volkswagen I.D Crozz comes with electric 4MOTION all-wheel drive. The front and rear axles each have an motor; the two produce a combined output of 301 horsepower and a top speed of 180 km/h. It also features a spacious cabin that plays host to the next-gen voice recognition — the doors can be opened and closed verbally. Similarly, the driver can use a voice command to activate the fully-automated “I.D. Pilot.”
The Volkswagen I.D. Crozz II hints at what VW has laid out for its electrifying future — by 2025, VW says it will be churning out one million I.D. models a year. That’s a bold plan by any standard. The Crozz II will find favour with families looking for an emission-free drive, minus the usual range anxiety.
The interior is spruced up with futuristic touches like a gesture-controlled ‘light blind’ ceiling, and big capacitive touch ‘fields’ in the doors. There’s a fancy multi-function steering wheel too, which folds away when the Crozz is switched to its fully autonomous mode.
The Crozz II will launch in 2020.
